Definition of a Capstone Product

In Capstone, products may be a tool, resource, intervention, or outcome.

The product of a curriculum project might be an 8-week group curriculum with a facilitator’s guide, handouts, slide shows and resource list.

The product of a public education campaign could be a series of weekly social media posts (including writtencontent and visuals), a content calendar, and a suggested timeline for posting with optimal reach to the target audience.

In this section of the proposal, you will write a short description of the final product you intend to provide to the agency. Your description should focus on the important features of the product and what will be included in the materials you present to the agency. You should also state how you will present this product to the agency – as a report, presentation, workshop, web-based resource, etc.

For now, this section will be very brief, likely just a paragraph. After you’ve implemented the project in the Spring semester, you will revise this section to include more specific details of your final product and how you’re presenting it to the organization. For now, just a basic overview of the anticipated product is enough.

Below are some examples of product descriptions from student projects.

Social Documentary Example

“The completed social documentary will be presented to the organization at the end of the semester during scheduled group supervision. I will discuss the project and show the final video product. Topics presented will include the literature review and the purpose of the social documentary. I would like to discuss as a group if the social documentary fulfills the need of the agency to raise public awareness about teen dating violence, sexual consent, and the initiation of a culture shift to one of consent. After the class and agency presentations, the intention is for the social documentary to be added to the organization’s website as a web-based resource.”

Client Satisfaction Survey Example

“The researcher anticipates that the findings or data received from this study will show that regardless of a client’s social identities—LGBTQ+ or cisgender heterosexual—clients will feel as though their needs have been met by therapists at ____. These findings will be presented to the agency through a presentation in their Social Justice Advisory Board (SJAB) meeting, a meeting that allows for agency staff and interns to come together and discuss how they can increase inclusivity within the clinic.”

Training Example

“The final product provided to ___ will be a two-hour cultural humility training that will be presented by the author to the interns in the spring of 2021. All training materials will be provided to the agency to be used for future training at the director’s discretion. Additionally, a final report will be prepared that will include the results of the training evaluation survey. It is anticipated that the training will meet the needs identified by the needs survey and provide the staff with greater understanding of concepts and tools to practice cultural humility.”
