Composition at CMU is an anthology of outstanding OER instructional articles aimed at demystifying the writing process for first-year college students in Composition I and Composition II classes. It aims to provide a high quality free textbook that instructors can use to guide their students through the necessary up-leveling from high school to university writing skills.
This collection has been initiated and edited by Nikki Mantyla, a writing instructor in the CMU faculty, and funded by a 2023–2024 Colorado Open Educational Resources (OER) CMU institutional grant titled More CMU MORE: More Colorado Mesa University Maverick Open Resource Educators. The Pressbooks space has been generously donated by the OER Council Professional Development subcommittee within the Colorado Department of Higher Education.
The project is currently under construction, with most articles restricted to password access until each one is ready for open use. The first part, for Comp I classes, should be ready by December 2024; the second part, for Comp II, will be put together during the spring semester of 2025 and ready by early May. After that, it will likely continue to grow and evolve to meet the ongoing needs of composition instructors.
